Itinerary

Day 1 | Arrival & First Night in Baghdad

Your Iraqi journey begins with your arrival at Baghdad International Airport. Our team will be there to welcome you and provide your private transfer to the hotel.

The remainder of the day is intentionally kept free, giving you time to settle in, recover from your flight, and prepare for the cultural and historical experiences ahead.

Day 2 | Baghdad, Tigris River & Ctesiphon

Today is dedicated to discovering Baghdad from several different perspectives, from its modern landmarks and literary heritage to its historic markets and ancient surroundings.

Start at Liberation Square, an important landmark in the capital and a place strongly associated with Iraq’s modern history.

The Tigris River then becomes part of the journey as you cross the river by boat. On the other side, head toward Al-Mutanabi Street, Baghdad’s celebrated center of books, poetry, and intellectual life. Its atmosphere provides an introduction to the city’s long-standing literary traditions.

The surrounding historic quarter brings you to the Old Bazaar and the Copper Market. Browse the traditional shops and observe the craftsmanship that has helped preserve Baghdad’s old commercial character.

For a taste of local café culture, stop at Al-Shabander Café. This historic establishment is a traditional gathering place where you can sit over Iraqi tea and dried lime tea while taking in the character of old Baghdad.

In the afternoon, leave the capital behind for Ctesiphon. Once the center of the Sassanian Empire, the ancient city is best known for the extraordinary Taq Kasra. Its enormous brick arch remains a remarkable example of ancient engineering and architecture.

Back in Baghdad, spend the evening in Al-Kadhimiya. The district comes alive with its evening market, while its religious significance is centered around the shrine of Imam Musa al-Kadhim and Imam Muhammad al-Jawad. The complex is recognizable by its magnificent golden domes.

Day 3 | From Baghdad to Babylon & Karbala

Following check-out, begin the day’s journey with an exterior view of the Martyr Monument, one of the capital’s most recognizable pieces of modern architecture.

The road then leads to Babylon, where the story of ancient Mesopotamia takes center stage. Spend time among the remains of the celebrated city and learn about the reign of King Nebuchadnezzar II, whose rule marked one of Babylon’s most powerful periods.

Babylon is also closely associated with the legendary Hanging Gardens, traditionally listed among the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The site offers an opportunity to consider how Babylon developed into one of antiquity’s great imperial capitals.

Above the archaeological area stands the former Saddam Hussein Palace. Now used as a museum, the building offers elevated views across the remains and surrounding landscape.

The afternoon brings a change in atmosphere as you arrive in Karbala, one of Iraq’s principal sacred cities.

Here, the focus turns to the city’s most important shrines. At the Imam Abbas Shrine, learn about Al-Abbas ibn Ali and his renowned devotion and courage during the Battle of Karbala.

The day’s final visit is the Imam Hussein Shrine, marking the burial place of Imam Hussein ibn Ali. His death at Karbala holds profound significance in Islamic history and remains central to the religious identity of the city.

Overnight in Karbala

Day 4 | Kufa, Najaf & Return to Baghdad

The final day takes you to Najaf and the nearby historic city of Kufa, two places deeply connected with the early history of Islam.

Begin at the Great Mosque of Kufa. Dating to the early Islamic period, the mosque is associated with Imam Ali’s leadership and contains several important shrines connected with prominent figures and events from Islamic history.

From Kufa, proceed to Najaf for the Imam Ali Holy Shrine. The shrine marks the burial place of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib and stands among the most important pilgrimage sites for Shia Muslims.

Before leaving Najaf, visit Wadi Al-Salam (Valley of Peace). Extending across a vast area beside the city, this historic cemetery has received millions of burials and is regarded as the world’s largest cemetery. Its scale and religious importance make it a distinctive part of Najaf’s heritage.

With the final visits complete, travel back to Baghdad, arriving in the evening.
