Day 1 | Arrival in Baghdad

Your journey begins with your arrival at Baghdad International Airport. Our representative will meet you at the airport and arrange a private transfer to your hotel.

The rest of the day is left open for you to rest and settle in after your flight, with the main exploration beginning the following morning.

Day 2 | Baghdad, Ctesiphon & Al-Kadhimiya

Begin your first full day in Iraq by exploring some of Baghdad’s best-known historic districts and landmarks.

Start at Liberation Square, where you can see the Freedom Monument, one of the capital’s most recognizable works of modern Iraqi art. From here, make a short boat crossing of the Tigris River before continuing to Al-Mutanabi Street, Baghdad’s celebrated literary quarter lined with bookshops and historic buildings.

Walk through the nearby Old Bazaar and Copper Market, where traditional commerce and handicrafts remain part of the character of the old city. Continue to Al-Shabander Café, a long-established meeting place in Baghdad, for traditional Iraqi tea and a chance to take in the atmosphere of the surrounding quarter.

Later, leave central Baghdad for Ctesiphon. Here, the enormous Taq Kasra provides a striking reminder of the Sasanian period and the architectural achievements of ancient Mesopotamia.

Finish the day in Al-Kadhimiya, one of Baghdad’s most important historic and religious districts. Explore its lively market area and see the magnificent shrine containing the tombs of Imam Musa al-Kadhim and Imam Muhammad al-Jawad.

Day 3 | Martyr Monument, Babylon & Ur

Leave Baghdad behind and head south, beginning with an exterior view of the distinctive Martyr Monument, an important piece of modern Iraqi architecture.

The route then continues to Babylon, the legendary Mesopotamian city whose influence extended far beyond ancient Iraq. Explore the archaeological remains and learn about the reign of King Nebuchadnezzar II, the Processional Way, and the stories associated with the Hanging Gardens.

Overlooking the archaeological area is the former Saddam Hussein Palace, which now functions as a museum and provides broad views across the remains of ancient Babylon.

Continue farther south to the Ziggurat of Ur, one of the most remarkable surviving monuments of Sumerian civilization. The massive stepped structure offers an insight into the religious traditions, construction methods, and urban achievements of early Mesopotamia.

By evening, arrive in Nasiriyah for your overnight stay.

Day 4 | Mesopotamian Marshes & Basra

Today the journey shifts from archaeological sites to the waterways and communities of southern Iraq.

Travel into the Mesopotamian Marshes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the region’s most distinctive environments. Meet members of the Marsh Arab community and enjoy traditional Iraqi tea before taking a Shakhtura boat through the reed-filled waterways, where water buffalo and traditional marsh life can be seen along the route.

For lunch, enter a traditional Mudhif, a distinctive reed-built structure used as a gathering and hospitality space. Here, enjoy Masgouf, Iraq’s renowned grilled fish.

Continue toward Al-Qurnah to see the Tree of Adam, a site surrounded by longstanding local traditions. From there, proceed to Al-Multaqa, where the Tigris and Euphrates meet to form the Shatt al-Arab.

Continue onward to Basra, where you will spend the night.

Day 5 | Discovering Basra

Begin yourl day with a visit to the Basra National Museum, housed within the historic former presidential palace complex. Explore its collections and exhibitions before continuing your journey through the city’s heritage.
