Itinerary
Day 1 | Arrive in Baghdad
Your journey begins with your arrival at Baghdad International Airport. Meet your local guide and transfer directly to your hotel in Baghdad.
The remainder of the day is left open for you to rest, settle in, and get ready for the days of exploration ahead.
Overnight in Baghdad
Day 2 | Baghdad, Ctesiphon & Al-Kadhimiya
Spend the day getting to know Baghdad through its historic streets, riverside landmarks, markets, and cultural quarters.
Start at Liberation Square, a significant landmark in the capital that has been closely connected with major events in Iraq’s modern history.
From here, cross the Tigris River by boat, enjoying views of Baghdad from the water before continuing into the historic heart of the city.
Walk along Al-Mutanabbi Street, Baghdad’s celebrated literary and cultural thoroughfare, lined with bookshops and local vendors. Continue to the Abbasid Palace, an important example of Baghdad’s medieval architectural heritage.
The exploration continues through the Old Bazaar and Copper Market, where traditional crafts and busy market life offer a glimpse into the city’s long commercial traditions.
Take a break at Al-Shabander Café, one of Baghdad’s best-known historic cafés, and enjoy traditional Iraqi tea and dried lime tea while taking in the atmosphere of this historic meeting place.
Later, leave central Baghdad for Ctesiphon, the ancient imperial city whose enormous surviving arch, Taq Kasra, remains a remarkable monument to the region’s past.
Return toward Baghdad and spend the evening in Al-Kadhimiya District, an important religious and cultural quarter. Visit the Al-Kadhimiya Shrine, recognized by its golden dome and associated with Imam Musa al-Kadhim and Imam Muhammad al-Jawad.

Day 3 | Babylon & Baghdad
Leave Baghdad for Babylon, one of the defining archaeological sites of ancient Mesopotamia. Explore the remains and reconstructed areas of the city while learning about its importance under King Nebuchadnezzar II and its role as a major center of power and urban civilization.
Continue through the archaeological area to sites connected with the famous story of the Hanging Gardens, one of the best-known traditions associated with ancient Babylon.
Above the archaeological remains, visit Saddam Hussein Palace, now used as a museum and offering views across the ancient site.
Return to Baghdad after the Babylon visit.
Once the sun goes down, experience another side of the capital in Karada, a lively district known for its restaurants, cafés, shops, and busy evening streets. It is an opportunity to see Baghdad beyond its historic monuments and experience the rhythm of contemporary city life.
Overnight in Baghdad
Day 4 | Samarra & Hatra
Travel north from Baghdad to Samarra, a former Abbasid capital and one of Iraq’s most important historic cities.
The first stop is the Great Mosque of Samarra, renowned for its enormous spiral Malwiya Minaret and its distinctive early Islamic architecture. Continue to the Abu Dalaf Mosque, another major Abbasid monument known for its large rectangular layout and spiral minaret.
The journey then continues toward Hatra. Explore this ancient fortified city, which developed into an important religious and trading center during the Parthian period. Its monumental temples, sculptures, and defensive structures reflect the cultural influences that once met here.
Continue onward to Mosul for the night.
Overnight in Mosul
Day 5 | Mosul & Return to Baghdad
Begin the final sightseeing day in Mosul with the remains of the Ancient Assyrian Wall, a surviving trace of the city’s deep historical roots.
Continue into the Old City of Mosul, where historic buildings, streets, and landmarks reflect the city’s long past while restoration continues following the destruction caused during the conflict with ISIS.
After the visit, return by road to Baghdad.
