Itinerary
Day 1 | Arrival & Welcome to Baghdad
Arrive at Baghdad International Airport, where our local team will meet you and arrange your transfer to the hotel. After check-in, the remainder of the day is free to rest and get settled before the tour begins.
Overnight in Baghdad
Day 2 | Baghdad’s Historic Streets & Ctesiphon
Start your exploration of Baghdad at Liberation Square, home to the renowned Freedom Monument and an important landmark of modern Iraqi history.
From there, cross the Tigris River by traditional boat and make your way to Al-Mutanabi Street, a historic center of Baghdad’s literary and cultural life. Continue through the Old Bazaar and Copper Market, where traditional shops and workshops bring the character of old Baghdad to life.
Take a pause at Al-Shabander Café, one of the city’s best-known traditional cafés, and enjoy a cup of Iraqi tea.
In the afternoon, leave central Baghdad to visit Ctesiphon, the former Sasanian capital. Here, see the enormous Taq Kasra, an extraordinary surviving example of ancient Sasanian architecture.
Return to Baghdad and head to Al-Kadhimiya. Explore its lively evening market before visiting the impressive shrine of Imam Musa al-Kadhim and Imam Muhammad al-Jawad.
Overnight in Baghdad
Day 3 | Abbasid Samarra, Hatra & Mosul
Travel north from Baghdad to Samarra, an important center of the Abbasid period.
Visit the Great Mosque of Samarra and its celebrated Malwiya (Spiral) Minaret. The minaret is currently closed while restoration work is underway, but you can view the monument from outside and learn about its distinctive design and place in Islamic architectural history.
Continue to the Abu Dulaf Mosque, another major Abbasid monument distinguished by its large scale and characteristic spiral minaret.
The journey then takes you farther north to Hatra. This ancient UNESCO World Heritage Site developed as a powerful kingdom between the Roman and Parthian spheres. Walk among its temples, defensive walls, and monumental structures, which reveal the importance of the city as both a religious and strategic center.
Continue onward to Mosul for the evening.
Overnight in Mosul
Day 4 | Mosul Heritage & Nimrud
Begin the morning with the remains of the Ancient Assyrian Wall, an important surviving feature of Mosul’s historic landscape.
Continue into the Old City of Mosul, where historic buildings, religious landmarks, and areas undergoing reconstruction reflect the city’s complex recent history and much older heritage.
Leave Mosul for Nimrud, one of the most significant archaeological sites of the Neo-Assyrian Empire. Once the capital of King Ashurnasirpal II, Nimrud is known for its monumental remains and important Assyrian archaeological discoveries. The site has suffered extensive damage but remains the focus of ongoing preservation work.
After exploring Nimrud, travel into the Kurdistan Region and continue to Erbil, the final destination of the day.
Overnight in Erbil
Day 5 | Erbil’s Citadel, Bazaar & Choli Minaret
Spend your final full day discovering the historic center of Erbil.
Visit the Erbil Citadel, the city’s most famous landmark and one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in the world. The citadel is currently closed for restoration, but its elevated position remains an impressive feature of Erbil’s cityscape.
Next, explore Qaysari Bazaar, a traditional covered market filled with shops selling carpets, spices, jewelry, textiles, and locally made goods.
Continue to the Choli Minaret, a distinctive 12th-century monument from the Atabeg period. Set within a landscaped park, the surviving minaret offers another glimpse into Erbil’s medieval history.
The rest of the evening is free to enjoy Erbil at your own pace.

After breakfast, transfer to Erbil International Airport for your departure flight, bringing your journey from the historic streets of Baghdad through Samarra, Hatra, Mosul, Nimrud, and Erbil to an end.
